Conventional Swedish or Deep Tissue massage is an ultimate experience for your muscles, joints, and general wellbeing. A Lymphatic Drainage massage goes beyond, cleansing body tissues and detoxifying the body, from allergy reactions, after physical injury, illness, or stress.

What to Request for you Massage

A Light Swedish massage is perfect for relaxation, re-establishing circulation, and promote cleansing within your lymphatic system. This massage is perfect if you are in recovery from recent illness, medical procedures, or you simply want a stress releasing experience that will relax you.

A Firm Swedish massage is relaxing but addresses body aches and pains that requires attention. This massage is perfect when you want relaxation with some added low-intensity pressure. Some stretches and joint manipulation is also addressed.

A Deep Tissue massage is stronger in intensity within your pain tolerance. It is best when addressing chronic pain and limited range of motion. In this case one session will offer some relief from pain and discomfort but will usually require repeat sessions to return comfort and normal range of motion. You will experience some pain when we address deep muscles requiring attention to initiate recovery. Deep tissue massage is also good if you are an athlete or you have a higher than average body mass.

Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage for me?
Lymphatic Drainage massage was originally used in France to help detoxify the body following chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and there are many recorded studies that indicated positive results; but this modality has evolved since it's origin in the 1930's into a regular spa treatment to detoxify the body during special periods of stress.

Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle massage that helps the lymphatic system maintain fluid balances in the body. It influences the circulatory system. The entire body deposits waste into the lymphatic system; unlike the circulatory system that flows through pumping of the heart, the lymphatic system depends on movement natural touch, exercise, and physical stress.

Lymphatic treatment addresses lymph nodes, vessels, and body mass that transports waste, toxins and debris that needs to be evacuated from the body; it relieves stagnation from the centers of distribution of Lymph, under the armpits, neck, and groin through gentle manual techniques. Lymphatic Drainage helps optimize the body systems when this waste accumulates as a result of long periods of sitting, lack of exercise or physical movement, periods of illness, stress and depression.

The benefits of Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is healing, reconstituting, and proven to promote health and well being. In combination with Reiki , promotes the natural flow of energy at all physical-physiological-and mental levels.

Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, along with Meditation and Yoga  are recognized as the most effective and curative therapies for the body and mind.

Massage Therapy has been used as a health maintenance system for over five thousand years and is one of the oldest medical practises recorded in history. It is defined today as the manual and scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for establishing and maintaining good health and promoting wellness. It is used therapeutically to relieve symptoms of physical illness and to re-balance the different functions of the body. It improves and helps maintain overall health when used regularly, and helps return muscles to their original shape and flexibility, even during periods when physical exercise is not possible.

Stress is the source of many physical ailments that can be relieved with massage sessions. Eighty to Ninety percent of all disease is stress related and a gentle to deep massage promotes relaxation and ongoing physical health. Foot, spine, and head massage stops sleepless nights by promoting relaxation and rest. Other benefits of Massage include pain relieve, increased blood and lymph circulation, improved breathing patterns, muscle oxygenation, and flexibility.

The positive results of Massage Therapy

Physically, Massage Therapy provides healing touch, and the manipulation of body tissue, muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and skin. The effects have repercussion throughout all the body systems.

Physiologically, Massage Therapy benefits include improved blood circulation, and improved neurotransmitter and hormone levels. It affects blood viscosity promoting faster filtration rate, blood flow to the skin and muscular tissue, blood oxidation levels, surface temperature of tissue on treated areas, increased red and white cell counts, increased platelet count, and improved immune system health and function.

Psychologically, Massage Therapy reduces stress levels, and promotes the production of cortisol and other hormones that point to increased relaxation. It reduces anxiety, depression and stress promoting mind-body connection. It is effective treating hyperactivity disorders.

At the Muscular-Skeletal level, Massage Therapy decreases tension within muscle-tendon unit, delayed muscle soreness DOMS and blood indicators of muscle damage, increases range of motion by decreasing muscle pain or stiffness, decreases electromyography activity or electrical activity within the muscles by creating muscle relaxation and decreasing muscle fatigue.

The effects of Massage Therapy are not isolated to one tissue type only, or one isolated body system since it affects the entire person. It interrupts the pain cycle influencing the response to pain at the physical and mental levels.

Shamanic practices and touch healing preceded all recorded healing practices and were based on the intuitive perception and manipulation of energy by shamans and practitioners.

Massage therapy appears to have few serious risks — if it is performed by a properly trained therapist and if appropriate cautions are followed. The number of serious injuries reported is very small. Side effects of massage therapy may include temporary pain or discomfort, bruising, swelling and a sensitivity or allergy to massage oils.
Cautions about massage therapy include the following:
  • Vigorous massage should be avoided by people with bleeding disorders, low blood platelet counts and by people taking blood-thinning medications such as Warfarin.
  • Massage should not be done in any area of the body with blood clots, fractures, open or healing wounds, skin infections, weakened bones (such as from osteoporosis or cancer) or where there has been a recent surgery.
  • Although massage therapy appears to be generally safe for cancer patients, they should consult their oncologist before having a massage that involves deep or intense pressure. Any direct pressure over atumor usually is discouraged. Cancer patients should discuss any concerns about massage therapy with their oncologist.
  • Pregnant women should consult their health care provider before using massage therapy.
